 News Flashes for the Week

JHP‘s Goodwill Activities at Pitt Bring Relief & Joy
As JHP continuously grows on Pitt’s campus (last week 100 students celebrated JHP Shabbos together),  a group of Pitt JHP interns lead by Stacey Formal, JHP Fellow, assisted & entertained the elderly by getting them out of their rooms, wheeling them back & forth, helping with their daily chores & organizing a Bingo game where all took part in fun at the Weinberg Retirement Center.
At Pitt, another group of interns “adopted” a new Russian family. These JHP interns are helping the family in language translations, legal matters, USA submersion and helping them find jobs.
These same interns along with Stacey are also actively involved with the Olive Institute, a Jewish organization providing services to families in crisis. They have instituted a “toy drive” for Jewish kids who are members of these families. They are now selling tickets to raise money to buy the kids toys and are also soliciting for toys. Josh Neuman, Publisher & Editor of “Heeb Magazine,” Speaks to JHP on NYU’s Campus
To a group of JHP interns at NYU, Josh Neuman presents his take on Jewish lifestyle & culture to JHP interns. Josh implied to the students that you can be hip and active in the modern world with all that it has to offer and still lead a promising Jewish life.

JHP at Play
Even during the leisure activities of our Young Professional’s Network, JHP’s strong influence was ever present. While students were on break, another brainchild of Andrew Spivack along with George Shotz & JHP’s Jennifer Birch, was a huge successful event. 250 young Jewish professionals attended “Turkey Ball” at Club 125 in Old City, Philadelphia.

Quote of the Week

“I had a blast during Karaoke night when Binghamton students came down & joined us for the weekend. It is nice to see that JHP at other schools is as much fun & successful as it is here.”
– Leore Haver, NYU “09
