Encore Performance: Shabbos for 2000!
Encore performance last Shabbos! Again & again, year after year, semester after semester, Shabbos for 2000! proves JHP's effectiveness on Penn's campus by reaching, that is connecting, more than a thousand students in one night, simultaneously, to their glorious heritage, with lasting effects.
This semester more than 1500 Penn students scurried along to 80 different locations throughout Penn's campus to joyously bring in & celebrate the Shabbos, performing Shabbos Mitzvahs, candle lighting, saying Kiddish & D'Var Torahs & partaking in Shabbos dinner feasts, singing & dancing with JHP all in unity. If only we could have taken an aerial view. Can you imagine!
Over 1000lbs of chicken, kugels, challahs, salads & all the trimmings-- Weeks in preparation by JHP Fellows, interns, cooks & other students and volunteers involved, along with all the students that attended, made this event, once again, an incredible success for JHP at Penn.
Dynamic JHP Temple & Delaware Retreats
JHP Temple goes to "Go-Vertical," a rock climbing venue to bond, build trust & work towards the improvement of JHP activities on campus. As an outgrowth of this retreat, new programs adding to increasing student participation in JHP & awareness of Jewish holidays were planned by the students such as pottery making for Seder Plates & Chanukah Menorahs.
JHP Delaware goes camping to Killens Pond in Dover. Students actually put together tents, cooked & lived on the camp grounds for the weekend bonding together even during the rain while performing all the Shabbos Mitzvahs. One of the new items discussed by the group was to incorporate JHP fundraising into the program roster.
JHP retreats allow students to gather in open forum, to meet and work together for the improvement of JHP. Students work & bond together, exchange ideas, identify current problem areas, brainstorm, reach solutions and determine new directions to take the program. The retreats set the stage for the program's future; empowering students to return to respective campuses energized and ready to execute new and exciting programs.
"Jewish Students Doing Jewish Things: Jews Doing Business with Jews"
Our JBN Advisory Board, is comprised of a young group of Jewish professionals who are the leaders & protagonists of the Jewish Business Network (JBN) & Jewish Heritage Programs (JHP).
This group of professionals offers many opportunities & events that promote networking, interaction, the common good & future of Jews & Jewish business in our community. The JBN Advisory Board activities are also philanthropic in hosting events that support Jewish charities & offer strong support for Israel.
It goes without saying that the primary purpose of the JBN Advisory Board is to support JHP as exemplified by their financial support and involvement in JHP mentoring programs.
Jonathan Kanze is a proud member of the JBN Advisory Board & is representative of the purpose of the group as a whole. In his own words,
"I think JHP gets Jewish students doing Jewish things & the JBN Advisory Board gets Jews doing business with Jews, expands networking opportunities among themselves & works toward guaranteeing their continuity & growth. If I could have an impact on the Jewish community in this world, I would stem the tide of intermarriage & help to keep Israel secure, both of which JBN & JHP contribute to." JBN Advisory Board
