 News Flashes for the Week

JHP Rallies in the Round
Tuesday, August 15th, JHP Alumni Mentors, Mike Geller, Andrew Schwartz, Jon Glick, Laura Yablon & Gabby Carlin enlightened & meted out their wealth of knowledge, acquired as former JHP interns, to new JHP Fellows at a roundtable discussion in the offices of George Rohr, NCH Capital, NYC. All acknowledged how important the Fellows were, how deeply the Fellows cared about their interns and what a dramatic difference that made to all of them.

JHP Responds to Israeli Crisis
Thursday, August 17th, another brainchild of Andrew Spivak, JHP mentor, “Escape the Summer Heat Event,” was a direct response to the recent events in Israel.100 JHP/JBN members raised funds for the amazing organization, the Israeli version of the Red Cross, Magen David Adom at the private club, Pulse in CC, Philadelphia. Gershon Trimpol, American Friends of Magen David Adom, talked about how Magen David Adom are the ones who immediately respond and appear at the scene when rockets hit. “I was very impressed with the caliber & integrity of the people in JHP and very much appreciative of their efforts to help save lives in Israel & have fun in the process.” – Gershon Trimpol

Quote of the Week

“Israel is the most incredible place in the world. I’ve gone many times on vacation. I wanted to live there for 6 months & enroll in Tel Aviv University. I am leaving August 20th for next semester. Israel is very safe & secure; they must be to survive. The IDF not only fights for freedom & peace, they fight for the right for Jews to exist all over the world. Without the land of Israel, Judaism would dissipate.”
- Liz Segal, JHP Intern, Temple (Liz was planning to leave on July 30, but postponed her trip because of the current events. In no way did it deter her plans to return.)

JHP- A Deeper Look

In addition to providing students with links to Judaism and Israel, JHP also instills the importance of Chesed & Tzedakah. By actively participating in “Mitzvah Week,” by providing food for the needy, by sending gifts & greetings to soldiers in action and planning and participating in other fundraising efforts for the Jewish community, these students learn the value & unselfish rewards of worldwide community service.
