David Borowich JHP Honoree Chairs Israel at 60! To a packed capacity crowd at Radio City Music Hall, dignitaries & stars rocked with David Borowich, event chairman and founder of Dor Chadash to pensively reflect & celebrate with music & humor, Israel at 60! "Today I join with all New Yorkers to commemorate and celebrate Yom Ha'atzmaut - the 60th anniversary of the founding of the State of Israel." - New York State Gov. David Paterson: "I am appointing myself one of the 12 tribes this evening," Paterson said, to great cheers, adding later: "We felt on Sept 11 what Israel feels every week." As far as dancing goes, Mayor Michael Bloomberg said he missed his tryout for the Rockettes "If anything could induce me to try a high kick, it would be the 60th anniversary," said Bloomberg, who greeted the crowd with the Hebrew phrase of Shalom. Singers Yael Naim, Matisayhu, Rami Kleinstein, The Idan Raichel Project & David Broza performed and partied with the crowd. Paul Shaffer, of "The Late Show with David Letterman," and actor Richard Belzer danced like they were at a Bar Mitzvah. Philadelphians Turn Out for Israel at 60 Sunday, May 18th, in spite of inclement weather, at Eakins Circle, Benjamin Franklin Pkwy, in front of the Philadelphia Museum of Art, thousands of Philadelphians turned out to join in celebration of Israel turning 60! Chabad/JHP/OCJAC/Mayonot Birthright/Friendship Circle/Hillel joined tables with the Jewish Federation in hosting the event. Jubilant revelers enjoyed food from Kosher Kiosks such as Max & Davids, mingled amongst table displays of jewelry, arts & crafts & wares from other retailers, sang & danced to the music of Machina, "platinum records and sold-out arenas" Israeli band. In reflective, spiritual moments crowds laid Tefillin & put wishes & prayers in the "Wall," a replica of the Western Wall of the Temple in Jerusalem. Penn Alumni Wine Tasting for Perelman Center for Jewish Life Last week a wine tasting was held at Highline Capital in Manhattan to update Penn Alumni from the 1990s & 2000s on the progress of the Perelman Center for Jewish life, the future home of Lubavitch House & JHP on Penn's campus. JHP/Chabad Rabbis Menachem Schmidt, Ephraim Levin & Levi Haskelevich were present during the festivities. Ben Levine, a Penn sophomore, spoke about programs on campus with emphasis on "Alternative Spring Breaks." Eric Gribetz, Penn '95, gave a financial review of the project. - Raised to date $2.5 million; another $2.5 million is needed - JHP presents A Taste of New York, Tuesday, June 24th, 2008 Jewish Heritage Programs presents A Taste of New York, hosted by Dr. Patricia & James Cayne with Special guest, Michael Steinhardt, at The Prince George Ballroom, 15 East 27th Street, NY, NY.
