Lunch with the Mayor

JBN's resourcefulness & influence is exemplary as evidenced by having the Honorable Michael Nutter, Mayor of Philadelphia as guest speaker at the last monthly JBN power luncheon, Chamber of Commerce at the Bellevue. It couldn't be better. The house was full to capacity & an SRO crowd.

When the Mayor walked into the room, his geniality was openly expressed by his actions to meet as many people individually as possible. The Mayor spoke for about 45 minutes addressing the city's problems & issues, followed by a Q & A session. The crowd found him friendly, approachable, down to earth, candid & that he cared about what everyone in the room had to say. They also realized that the Mayor really cares about the city

At the end of the luncheon, the audience applauded in appreciation for a laudable address by the Honorable Michael Nutter, Mayor of Philadelphia.

"The intelligence & warmth of the mayor besides his powerful remarks really gave us hope for the city. He is really an amazing man." - Rabbi Menachem Schmidt.

A Credible JHP Achievement, OCJAC

If you haven't been to the Old City Jewish Art Center (OCJAC), you are missing out on one of the most expressive, significant Jewish venues & experiences in the city of Philadelphia. OCJAC is Old City's answer to Jewish art. Since its inception, thousands have passed through the gallery where hundreds of prominent local Jewish artists exhibit their work. The gallery's exhibits have grown tremendously & importantly contribute to the Philadelphia art scene & to the Jewish community.

The current (& last First Friday Shabbos exhibit), is beyond words. This extensive exhibit, Art Sisters, displays the works of 20 incredible female Jewish artists.

View these works of art in mixed mediums, in a Jewish setting, light candles, say Kiddish, enjoy a Shabbos meal & experience a taste of Shabbos as never before, among friends, uniquely beautiful, all provided by JHP.

For a breathtaking prelude, please go to OCJAC website and view a magnificent slide show presentation that words cannot describe & also browse the website as it has been beautifully updated!

"What sets this place apart is the welcoming environment and its connection to the community.  They take part in the Olde City First Friday, which OCJAC calls "Shabbos First Friday," and they also have musical programs, concerts, classes, and workshops, in addition to their Jewish Art exhibitions.  So next time you're out for First Friday, or you're just in the neighborhood and want to catch some cool art, stop by this place. You won't be disappointed."  - Kelly S, Philadelphia, PA

A JHP Bar Mitzvah

Earlier this month, at the Chabad House on the Upper East Side in Manhattan, Tefillin were readily accessible. One of the Binghamton students attending a JHP mentoring event, Roman Zelichenko upon laying Tefillin averred, "I never was Bar Mitzvah'd." When hearing his exclamation, one of the rabbis at the Chabad House answered, "Then this is your Bar Mitzvah." All the students present then danced in celebration & even gave presents to the new Bar Mitzvah boy.
