Successful and Kosher While Seeking a Jewish Cinderella
To a crowd full of NYU JHP interns, being Jewish & successful, traveling the world while keeping Kosher and the importance of dating Jewish were only a few of the topics presented by charismatic JHP mentor, Ari Goldman. In addition to running three enterprises, Ari has starred in the Israeli version of the “Bachelor,” entitled Mikol Habanot B’olem (of all the girls in the world) which aired on Israeli television. The students became captivated when another JHP mentor, Larry Hill, chair of Dewey Ballantine’s Tax Controversy & Litigation Group revealed that his grandmother used to have secret meetings in the woods in Poland with former Prime Minister of Israel, Yitzhak Shamir.
From Israel to L A to Binghamton
Thanks to Anna Levy & her JHP interns, after careful planning, coordination and laying out the funds necessary, they imported 2 Jewish Reggae acts, “Brazil and “Vockal,” from Israel via LA, to Binghamton to enlighten JHPers. The 2 acts sang in a hip hop style about Jewish unity, bridging the gap between American and Israeli Jews as 300 people scrambled in from the line that stretched out onto the street.
Quote of the Week
“It is so remarkable to see someone that is so accomplished in his career and at the same time so unbelievably dedicated to keeping the traditions and customs of Judaism at the forefront of his life. Truly Inspiring!
– Alex Cramer, NYU ‘06
JHP- A Deeper Look
Part of JHP’ proliferation on campus is accomplished by student planning initiatives including holiday celebrations with all activities containing Jewish content. All major holidays are part of the JHP student roster for each semester. In addition to planning the celebrations with acquiring needed space, individual help, food, materials and music permitted, the students incorporate Jewish learning in all JHP events. By linking Jewish content to even the simplest activity, the students acquire a deeper understanding of their Jewish identity, a link to the Jewish community and an awareness of the importance of the major festivals.
