A Recurring JHP Fete: Shabbos for 2000!

Bravo! Yasher Koach! JHP amazingly does it again, last Friday night! JHP Shabbos for 2000 , igniting the flames of thousands of Jewish students all in one night!

Students, in the midst of freezing temperatures & a snow storm, despite inclement weather conditions & the TGIF college partying scene scurried along to 80 separate locations throughout Penn's campus to bring in the Shabbos, simultaneously, all in one night, all at the same time, all interconnected through JHP & Yiddishkeit.

Students performing Shabbos Mitzvahs, candle lighting, saying Kiddish & D'Var Torahs, partaking in Shabbos dinner feasts, singing & dancing with JHP all in unity.
"I said Kiddush, Brad Rubin performed HaMotzie & Nechemya Kagedan said Bircas HaMazon." - Brian Finkel at Rodin College House

"The relationship between body & soul in Judaism was discussed." - Michael Zorger at Sigma Alpha Mu
"We sang Shabbat songs." - Rachel Meisel, in the dorm
"We talked about the significance of Shabbat in the Jewish religion & about symbolism of the holiday." - Melissa Braff at a friend's house
"In JHP, I thought it would be nice to celebrate the Sabbath in our apartment & with friends." - Charles Weinberg, in his apartment

This year as part of JHP's Shabbos for 2000, 330 Penn graduate students, an unprecedented number, reveled in Hall of Flags, Houston Hall on Penn's campus to bring in the Shabbos.

Binghamton's Welcome to Shabbat

Last Friday night, David Schneid, JHP Fellow & his industrious interns held a How-To-Shabbat Dinner to instruct & illuminate Binghamton students, including themselves on the Mitzvahs of Shabbat & how to hold Shabbat dinners.

Last week, David & his interns also met for guacamole & a discussion on Marrano Jews. Some of these Jews were known as "Conversos" or "Judíos Escondidos" - hidden Jews. These Sephardic Jews were forced through persecution during the Spanish & Portuguese Inquisitions to convert but secretly adhered to Judaism.

Throughout Binghamton's campus JHP interns can now be seen wearing T-Shirts with the catchy idiom, "Jew Want To Join."
