"JHP Florida, A Program That We'll Remember"

February 13 , 2008

in this issue:

- Rabbi Menachem Schmidt Interviews Benjamin G. Mayer - Second Installment

- JHP Signs Up 1300 In One Hour!

RMS: Please relate one or two powerful stories about a student's reaction or
experience through the program
.

Benjamin G. Mayer: "To me what makes JHP Florida so powerful is that it is built on such a simple concept that is easy to understand and easy to communicate: a program that links students to leading Jewish professionals so they can form critical and impactful relationships that will carry on with them for the rest of their lives."

"When students here this, they get very excited about our program because most students' main concern (and probably one of the only concerns a college student has!) is what they will do after school."

"In speaking to students involved in our program, we've had some interesting experiences.  One of the most poignant experiences that involved a group of students was when we recently set a meeting and asked that any students that wished to become JHP Florida student leaders attend.  We had a core group of students show up at the meeting and they were so excited and filled with great ideas and fervor for the program.  It was great to see those students that, when they see an opportunity to engage in organization building and implementing positive change, can't help but be involved.  Frankly, those are the students that will be the most successful and hopefully will soon be on the other side (involved as mentors) of JHP Florida, a program that we'll remember as one they were so excited to help build and get off the ground."

"Another experience that sticks in my mind is one that is recurring - every time I explain the program to students or professionals - it is always met with the same reaction: 'How can I get involved?'"

RMS: What is your vision for the future in Florida?

Benjamin G. Mayer: "Our vision is to see JHP Florida rollout to every school in Florida so we can have a tremendous positive effect on accelerating the professional
development and careers of young Jewish professionals.  Now, in order to build a successful organization we recognize it must be done initially on a smaller scale by establishing processes and organizational structure, building a brand amongst students and professionals and recruiting strong leadership.  However, once we have accomplished those aspects in our three initially selected target universities, we feel comfortable that JHP Florida will be a scalable platform into other Florida Universities.  So far, we've got the right level of momentum with the appropriate infrastructure in place and are beginning to see our efforts bear fruit."
