Shabbos Gallery Joins the First Friday Arts Festival in Old City
In a collaborated effort, JHP Temple interns & Chabad of Old City took part in the arts festival, First Friday in Old City, Philadelphia. Like an erupted volcano, more than 1000 people flowed into the “Shabbos Gallery” between 5pm & 9pm, which offered a “taste of Shabbos” in an innovating, exciting gallery environment. The crowd was packed wall to wall inside and poured out onto the street outside. Samples of gefilte fish, special salads and matzo ball soup were served by 25 volunteers, including JHP interns. Kiddush was recited every 20 minutes while Rabbis and Rebbitizins & informed Jewish individuals expounding explanations to inquiring Jewish minds…. all amidst Jewish themed photos by renowned photographer, Steve Belkowitz made this event extraordinarily successful.
Super Prayer at Pitt
A different type of “pre-game”……. JHP fellow, Ilya Bratman, held a minyan at his home along with 35 students as a prelude to Super Bowl XL, in anticipation of the game and party celebrations. Students even put on teffilin, praying intensely for a victory. Then the JHP Super Bowl party was really ready to begin! We are waiting to hear news about the JHP part in the Steelers’ victory parade celebration.
Quote of the Week
“Lever 2000, as their commercials claim, never gets to my 2000 parts, but Shabbat for 2000 will! JHP loves Shabbat for 2000 & visa versa. In fact, I once saw Shabbat for 2000 hearts inscribed on a tree….I’m not kidding. Shabbat for 2000 is that time in the semester when JHP gets 2000 people on Penn’s campus to enjoy not-so-home-cooked Shabbat meals at the same time. It is a wonderful event. I love it, your mother likes it, and even your Aunt Netta likes it. So you will like it too. Our goal this year is for each JHP intern and meeting-goers to hold his/her own Shabbat dinner & invite as many people that are deemed worthy. You can collaborate; put your hearts together. Don’t miss out….”
