Rising Stars at JHP – Issue III
Anna Skale
An Elkins Park resident, Anna and her family have been active in Jewish pursuits throughout their lives. Besides work and her participation in JHP, her 2 children are enrolled in Jewish day school. Anna is also active in Beth Sholom Synagogue with her two children and is an active member in PBN and other community organizations.
Anna is a PTI grad and is now a very successful real estate salesperson, as exemplified by her being on the leading edge in the top 2% of her company.
Anna has been active and a mentor in JHP for 10 years and has chaired the JHP Auction for many years. She has also created JHP Music Night at Penn with the Israeli Symphony Orchestra. Anna is also on the Board of JBN, which was her impetus to JHP and it was all uphill from there.
Why JHP? Anna has always had people who were a positive impact on her life as a Jew and she wants to give back to the community what she has learned and experienced. According to Anna, there is no better way for her than to be an active proponent in JHP. The proof! Anna now has a former JHP Penn student coming to work for her as a direct result of a JHP mentoring relationship.
New Leadership at Penn
In a fully crowded room at the Civic House, the hub of activity on Penn’s campus, 50 students, 15 new JHP interns, 12 new leads in addition to 2 new committees were incorporated into JHP at Penn. Each lead spoke about major upcoming events.
There was an Israel minute and lead intern Hanna Zelman gave her description of Israel events and personal feelings of being Jewish. Rabbi Levi talked about Jewish values. Students then split up into small groups of special interest such as mentoring, community service, etc. and it was constructive chaos. They then promoted a welcome back party for next week. Next meeting will be Sunday.
Julie Wertheimer, a lead intern, even cut her responsibilities short, being on the board of Pan Hel, head Greek organization at Penn, to come last minute to this meeting she did not want to miss.
