JHP Planting New Seeds at Penn
Coinciding this month with Tu B'Shvat, the 15th of Shevat, the day that marks the beginning of a "New Year for Trees, " & strengthening the "Tree of Life," JHP is branching out for spring semester at Penn. This season trees in Israel emerge from winter and begin a new fruit-bearing cycle. So goes JHP at Penn as it plants new seeds with new initiatives & new student lead interns. Six of the nine lead interns, Andy Stafman, Mentoring; Lauren Wolfson, Social; Jackie Brand, Social; Becca Greenfield, PR; Rebecca Feygenson, Jewish Content; Amanda Nelson, Community Service are new & join existing students, Jenna Schwartz, Community Service; Eric Schub, Mentoring & Hayley Barton, Assistant Fellow.
This Sunday at the Lubavitch House at Penn, Lindsay Teich, JHP Fellow along with JHP/Chabad Rabbi Ephraim Levin will chair the first of many meetings with the JHP lead interns. They will review & strengthen previous programs & plan new initiatives. Programs underway include Shabbos for 2000, Mitzvah Week, "How-To Shabbat," Passover & Purim Fetes, Mentoring Events & the Spring Leadership Retreat.
"I am very excited with the leads, all previous members of JHP who so inspired want to do more to promote JHP. I am looking to build off of last semester with new ideas & programs to further enhance the JHP presence & influence on campus." - Lindsay Teich, JHP Fellow, Penn
Back to School at Pitt
Stacey Formal & her JHP interns held their first meeting last Monday night. Most of the interns are new this year so there was a lot to talk about. Creativity flowed introducing new program ideas & ways to advertise JHP on campus .
Events this semester include a social bonding experience, ice skating in Schenley Park, a community service event, playing Bingo with retirees at a Jewish retirement home & going to United Synagogue Youth Lounge Night to mentor students.
Also in the planning is a JHP Super Bowl party, bowling event & a mentoring initiative on campus. JHP monthly Shabbat dinners are a mainstay at Pitt.
