"Create Your Own Landscape"

Last week, First Friday Shabbos packed them in again at JHP's Old City Jewish Art Center. 1000 participants entered our gallery & viewed "Lanscape Memories" by Linda
Dubin Garfield, printmaker/mixed media artist & "Bridges" by Rachel Shoham,
kiln-formed glass artist. A hundred stayed extending their Shabbos experience by taking part in a traditional Shabbos dinner with explanations provided by the Rabbis.
The potential outcome of mixing the Jewish experience with art at the OCJAC is unlimited. As an outgrowth of First Friday Shabbos, classes & workshops, music & concerts will be forthcoming. Our first free workshop will be held Wednesday, January 23, 2008. Participants will have the opportunity to use various materials to make landscapes of their own using collage, ink, crayon, glass, etc to create a landscape of a real or imaginary place. This workshop will be led by Linda Dubin Garfield. There will also be a power point presentation on glass art by Rachel Shoham.

"Alternative Spring Break" - Prague, Czech Republic

While students are on winter break, much is ado at JHP. In addition to planning JHP rosters for the upcoming semesters, a wonderful unique "Alternative Spring Break" is in the works. JHP is working with Lubavitch House who is planning the trip. The focus of this event will be an exploratory community service trip by JHP Penn students to Prague, Czech Republic during Spring Break.
Prague is considered one of the most beautiful cities in Europe. The Jewish Quarter in Prague is quite historic filled with Jewish ethnicity.
The students will work hands-on to benefit the Jewish community. There will be education for the Prague Jewish children as well as a Holocaust review. The theme is Ahavas Yisroel, love of the Jewish people, even someone unknown on the other side of the world.
Each student will be raising $500 towards the cost of the trip. There are 15 student slots available. If you know of any student interested in going on this trip or would like to contribute to this effort, please contact Rabbi Ephraim Levin  or Lindsay Teich

Thank you,
